Fotara
Cookie policy
Last updated: August 25, 2026
Fotara uses the bare minimum it needs to work: two necessary cookies. There are no analytics, advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
1 What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser, which the browser returns with every request so the site recognises the visit.
Alongside them, browsers offer other local stores — such as localStorage — that keep data on your device without sending it with every request. Both are described here.
2 Necessary cookies
These are the only two cookies Fotara sets:
- fotara_session — keeps you signed in. It stores a random token, not your email or your password. It lasts at most 400 days and is cleared when you sign out. Without it you would have to sign in again on every page.
- fotara_host — only says “there is a session”, with the value 1. The page itself reads it to decide whether to paint your account links in the header before the first paint, without calling the API on every load. It identifies no one.
3 Preferences stored in your browser
These are not cookies: they never travel to the server, they stay on your device.
- The language you chose, so we do not suggest another one again.
- The notice about the iOS photo picker, so you are not shown it twice.
- The guest identifier: a random value that lets an uploader delete their own files. It is shared with no one and cannot be used to follow you outside the album.
4 Analytics
We use none. Fotara loads no Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel and no other third-party measurement tool, and there are no advertising tags on the site.
5 Third-party cookies
We embed no social widgets and no external players.
If you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, your browser visits their domain to authenticate you and those providers may use their own cookies under their policies; we do not read them. Payment opens on the Lemon Squeezy domain, which applies its own.
6 How to manage them
You can delete cookies and site data from your browser settings, and block them entirely.
If you block the necessary ones you will not be able to stay signed in and therefore will not be able to create or manage albums. Viewing an album as a guest and uploading photos still works.
7 Changes
If we ever add a cookie, we list it here before or at the same moment it starts being used.
